Qinhuangdao Port's coal throughput dropped 4.37 percent week-on-week to 4.49 million tons between August 30 and September 5, reports caijing.com.cn citing data from the port.

Railway-transported coal dropped 11.98 percent week-on-week to 4.3 million tons between August 30 and September 5.

Li Chaolin, market analyst for the China Coal Transportation & Sales Society, said the decline was caused by Ministry of Railways regulations.

Li predicts an increase in coal transport volume between September 6 and September 12 due to major railway maintenance scheduled after this period. The spot price of 5,500 Kcal power coal in Qinhuangdao Port dropped five yuan to between 715 to 725 yuan per ton on September 1.

Through September 5, Qinhuangdao Port's coal inventory dropped 124,000 tons to 7.2 million tons from August 30.
